Samsung SDI and GM to Invest $3 Billion in Electric Vehicle Battery Plant

General Motors and Samsung SDI are investing $3 billion to build an EV battery cell manufacturing plant in St. Joseph County, Indiana. The project will be Samsung SDI’s second battery manufacturing plant in the U.S., and its first joint venture with GM. Located on a 28.5-million-square-foot site in New Carlisle, the facility is expected to begin construction within the next year and create 1,000 jobs during this period of development as well as around 1,700 permanent positions when operations commence at full capacity with an annual production of 30 gigawatt-hours – enough for 300,000 EVs annually!

GM already has a substantial presence across Indiana with five facilities that employ more than 5,700 workers; recently announcing plans to invest $632 million into expanding their Fort Wayne assembly plant operations and upgrade equipment too! This new investment marks yet another milestone for GM’s commitment towards electric vehicle production needs while providing job opportunities throughout the state of Indiana – making it one step closer towards becoming a leader in green energy solutions worldwide!
