Thompson Thrift has marked a key milestone at The Gilmore, its 35-acre mixed-use development in Gilbert, with the grand opening of a new Safeway grocery store. The 64,000-square-foot Safeway is positioned at the northwest corner of Val Vista Drive and Germann Road, just off Loop 202, serving as a major retail anchor within the project.
The Gilmore is planned with approximately 200,000 square feet of grocery, restaurant and retail space alongside a multifamily component. Within the development, The Residences at The Gilmore will deliver 300 luxury apartment homes, integrating residential uses directly with the surrounding neighborhood retail and dining options. The combination is designed to provide convenient access to daily needs and services for residents while driving steady customer traffic for retailers.
The Residences at The Gilmore will include a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes. Residents are expected to have access to a range of on-site amenities focused on lifestyle, wellness and remote work needs. Planned features include a heated swimming pool, a 24-hour fitness studio and a coworking lounge with private focus rooms intended to support hybrid and remote work patterns.
Additional resident-focused amenities at The Residences at The Gilmore will include an outdoor entertainment kitchen and multiple social spaces designed for gatherings and events. Pet owners are expected to benefit from a dedicated dog park paired with a pet spa, while many homes will offer balcony or patio options to extend living space outdoors.
Beyond The Gilmore, Thompson Thrift remains active across Arizona with a pipeline of notable developments in multiple communities. Current projects cited by the company include Pointe17 and Refinery at Pointe17 in Phoenix, The Maddox in Buckeye, Stella in San Tan Valley, Southbridge Marketplace in Maricopa, Elliot Tech Center in Mesa and Germann Commerce Center in Queen Creek.
