**Texas Biomedical Research Institute Announces $210M Expansion in San Antonio**
The **Texas Biomedical Research Institute** has embarked on a significant expansion of its West San Antonio campus. The $210 million initiative aims to enhance the 200-acre campus by increasing its structural footprint and research capabilities.
Some of the initial work on the expansion has already been completed, including the first phase of a new animal care complex and various infrastructure improvements.
The majority of the expansion, totaling approximately $160 million in new projects, is scheduled for completion by 2028. A key component of the plan includes the construction of a 30,000-square-foot high-containment facility, which will feature nearly 4,000 square feet of new biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) laboratory space. This state-of-the-art BSL-4 building is estimated to cost around $75 million.
Additionally, the expansion includes the development of a new **Animal Health Center**, an 18,000-square-foot facility representing a $20 million investment, set to be completed by June 2026.
Other planned projects include new shipping, receiving, and maintenance facilities, along with further infrastructure improvements to support the institute’s growth.
