"SA Airport Terminal Expansion Contract Awarded for $1B"

San Antonio City Council has approved a construction manager at risk contract with Hensel Phelps Construction Co. for a $1 billion terminal development project, expected to create 6,000 jobs. The completion date for the terminal development plan is set for 2028, with core construction work potentially starting in late 2022 or early 2025.

According to reports from the San Antonio Business Journal, Hensel Phelps is a leading global contractor specializing in aviation terminals and currently holds the title of largest firm of its kind in the U.S. Their portfolio includes successful airport projects across various cities such as Houston, Baltimore, Los Angeles,Miami and Seattle.

The upcoming expansion project will feature a new concourse with 17 gates and an apron area along with an upgraded Federal Inspection Service section. Additionally,it will involve expanding elevated roadways,a multistory ground transportation center,and constructing a new north ramp to accommodate overnight aircraft parking needs.

This significant contract award marks another milestone towards enhancing San Antonio’s airport infrastructure without compromising on quality or efficiency.
