S Miami Mall Owner Seeks Massive Makeover

The owners of the Shops at Sunset Place in South Miami have proposed a major redevelopment plan for the mostly vacant mall. The project, led by Federal Realty Investment Trust, Grass River Property and The Comras Company, will be considered by South Miami’s Planning Board. Zyscovich has been chosen as the project architect.

Originally opened in 1999, the Shops at Sunset Place currently consists of 524,180 square feet of retail space along with a movie theater and some residential and office units. However, under this new proposal called “Sunset Place,” it would undergo a massive transformation to include 1.47 million square feet of space including 1,513 multifamily units and a hotel with 287 rooms.
