RPM Raceway’s large-format entertainment concept at Oakbrook Center illustrates how regional malls are leaning on experiential anchors to drive traffic and backfill former specialty venues.

RPM Raceway, an immersive racing and entertainment destination, is preparing to establish its first Midwest presence with a new venue in the Chicago area. The company plans to open a location at Brookfield’s Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook, Illinois, extending its footprint beyond its existing markets and introducing its brand to a new regional audience.

The project will occupy a 90,000-square-foot space within the retail center. The venue is planned as a transformation of a former Sony Pictures Entertainment location, repurposing the existing footprint for a new use focused on karting and competitive entertainment. This new facility will mark RPM Raceway’s fifth location nationwide and its first in Illinois, highlighting the chain’s continued geographic expansion.

Within the 90,000-square-foot venue, RPM Raceway plans to dedicate more than 45,000 square feet to multi-level karting. The design calls for two separate tracks, each configured for different racing needs, including pro, adult, and junior karting. Together, the two tracks will combine to create the RPM Megatrack, which the company describes as the longest multi-level go-kart track in the Midwest.

The new Oakbrook Center location is positioned as a destination for a broad user base ranging from families to groups of friends and corporate or social outings. The emphasis on multiple track levels and varied race formats is intended to accommodate different skill levels and age groups within the same facility, making karting accessible to a wide range of guests.

Andrew Farage, founder and CEO of RPM Raceway, characterized the Oak Brook project as a major step forward for the company. He noted that “RPM Oakbrook is our most ambitious venue yet and our first step into the Midwest.” Farage also highlighted the company’s partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment in connection with the venue, stating that the collaboration supports bringing the Chicago area “its longest multi-level go-kart track and a competitive entertainment experience built for families, friends, and colleagues.”

As RPM Raceway advances plans for this Oakbrook Center venue, the project underscores ongoing demand for large-format experiential entertainment concepts within established regional shopping destinations, particularly those seeking to diversify offerings beyond traditional retail.
