“Roof Repair in Progress at Tropicana Field”

"Roof Repair in Progress at Tropicana Field"

After Hurricane Milton, one of the most memorable moments was when the roof of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg was blown off. In response, the city has decided to allocate tax dollars towards repairing the stadium.

The St. Pete City Council has approved a budget of $6.5 million for initial repairs on Tropicana Field, which is owned by the city and leased to Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. The contract for emergency waterproofing services and remediation has been awarded to Hennessy Construction Services Corp and BMS CAT.

As per their lease agreement with the city, it is mandatory for them to make necessary repairs in case of any damage caused by natural disasters like hurricanes. While a final assessment report on damages is still pending, it has been reported that immediate action needs to be taken as even a simple rainstorm could cause further harm due to lack of proper drainage systems.

In light of these circumstances, plans have already been made for Rays’ relocation from Tropicana Field by April 2028 into a new publicly-funded stadium built on adjacent property.
