### Rivian Expands Normal, Illinois Plant for R2 Production

Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is expanding its production facilities in Normal, Illinois, in preparation for the launch of its upcoming R2 electric vehicle.

The expansion includes a new 1.1-million-square-foot facility dedicated to body shop and general assembly operations, along with additional buildings for paint, battery systems, and material logistics. These developments will enable Rivian to boost its production capacity to 215,000 electric vehicles per year.

In 2023, Rivian announced a $1.5 billion investment to enhance the plant, with support from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. As part of this initiative, the state offered a 30-year incentive package, contingent on Rivian creating at least 550 new jobs.

To streamline the R2 rollout, Rivian will leverage its existing 4.3-million-square-foot facility, which currently supports R1 and commercial van production. By utilizing its experienced workforce and well-established infrastructure, the company aims to accelerate production efficiently.
