Rivian, a California-based electric vehicle (EV) maker, is set to open its first Chicago showroom in September. The 5,160-square-foot space at 871 N. Rush Street in the Gold Coast will be the fifth of 10 planned showrooms for 2021. Customers can test drive and reserve vehicles at the location; base prices of Rivian’s R1T truck and R1S SUV are $73,000 and $78,000 respectively.
The move follows two years after launching production of its EVs in Normal Illinois as well as an earlier attempt to open a Fulton Market showroom which was cancelled due to difficulties ramping up production levels amid high demand for their products late last year. However with nearly 14k vehicles produced during Q2 this year alone – on track towards 50k by end 2021 – it appears that Rivian has regained momentum with their EV manufacturing efforts once again..
