"Revitalization Campaign Launched by Amtrak at Union Station in DC"

Amtrak has officially assumed responsibility for the day-to-day management of the commercial areas at Washington Union Station. With this change, a new program has been launched to revitalize and enhance operations at the passenger rail terminal. The primary focus will be on improving customer experience, comfort, and security while also implementing investments to better serve station users according to Amtrak’s rail network.

This initiative comes after Amtrak filed a lawsuit in April 2022 and was granted control of managing and operating the station by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Despite an appeal from Rexmark, who holds a commercial lease on the station, their request to delay Amtrak’s takeover was denied by a federal appeals court last week.

According to Amtrak President Roger Harris: “Washington Union Station is not only a crucial transportation hub but also serves as a popular tourist destination. As such, it is an essential asset within our core business.” Harris further stated that with their expertise and vision in mind they aim to create an even safer and more welcoming environment for all travelers while ensuring that this iconic building remains vital for years to come.
