The Planning and Zoning Board of Mesa has recommended the approval of rezoning approximately 80 acres that were previously occupied by Fiesta Mall. Verde Investments, owned by Valley businessman Ernest Garcia II, plans to transform the site into a mixed-use project called Fiesta Redefined.
Verde’s vision for Fiesta Redefined includes building up to 4,000 residential units and up to 1.1 million square feet of nonresidential development. The project will also feature a “village green” open space with benches, shade structures, and trees.
According to the Phoenix Business Journal, if approved by the Mesa City Council in the coming months, Verde will seek out project partners in order to determine a construction timeline.
Fiesta Mall faced struggles like many other malls and eventually closed all its stores in 2019. However, the repositioning plan for Fiesta Mall is now taking shape under Verde’s ownership.
