The State Theatre in Austin, located at 719 Congress Ave., is set to undergo a complete transformation. The project, which will begin in March 2025 and cost $22 million, is being led by the Austin Theatre Alliance – owners of both the State and adjoining Paramount Theatres. According to reports from the Austin Business Journal, this renovation will involve a complete overhaul of the building’s interior and exterior. This includes adding a rooftop lounge for patrons to enjoy as well as repairing any damages on the facade. Additionally, an interior connection between both theatres will be established.

Leading this ambitious project is design firm Clayton Korte. With their expertise and vision for modernizing historic spaces while preserving their character, they are sure to bring new life into these iconic venues.

The State Theatre first opened its doors in 1935 as one of Austin’s premier destinations for film screenings. Today it continues to host not only films but also live performances and conferences according to Visit Austin’s website.The neighboring Paramount Theatre has been around even longer since its construction back in 1915.This dynamic duo hosts over 550 events annually making them integral parts of Austins cultural scene.
