**Related Midwest Unveils New Playground at Marshall Field Garden Apartment Homes**
Related Midwest, in collaboration with the Related Affordable Foundation and Related Affordable Management Company, recently celebrated the opening of a newly renovated playground at Marshall Field Garden Apartment Homes in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. The community, home to 628 affordable housing units, is one of the largest affordable housing developments on the city’s North Side and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The new playground was developed in partnership with KABOOM!, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ending playspace inequity. The project follows Related Midwest’s $175 million renovation of the property after acquiring it in 2016.
The design process for the new playground was community-driven, beginning with a “design day” hosted by Related and KABOOM!, during which residents shared their ideas and visions for their ideal playspace. These ideas helped shape the final design for the playground.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of the playground, with attendance from Related Midwest representatives, local residents, community members, and partners, including officials from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
