Redevelopment of Navy's Old Town Campus: Developers Compete for Opportunity

Four developers have submitted proposals to redevelop the U.S. Navy’s Old Town campus in San Diego, as reported by the San Diego Business Journal . Each of these four is vying for the role of master developer on this 70-acre project, which the Navy plans to name by year’s end.

Financial terms and other details related to each proposal remain undisclosed at this time; however, according to a statement from the Navy “updates will be provided as permitted and appropriate” moving forward with process.

The chosen developer will be tasked with constructing a modern headquarters for NAVWAR -the command focused on information technology and cybersecurity- currently housed in sprawling repurposed factory buildings that once produced World War II aircraft such as PBY Catalina seaplanes and B-24 bombers. Private businesses would also have an opportunity lease out remaining portions of property for extended term use while building mixed-use developments thereon.
