**Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine Receives Pre-Accreditation, Set to Launch in Chicago’s West Loop**
The Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (IllinoisCOM), part of The Chicago School, has received pre-accreditation status, marking a significant milestone in the development of a new medical education institution in Chicago. The school is on track to begin student recruitment for its inaugural class in Fall 2026.
As a central component of a $1 billion economic development initiative, IllinoisCOM will anchor a new 247,000-square-foot medical campus in the city’s West Loop neighborhood. Once operational, the new institution will be home to approximately 1,800 students, faculty, and staff. Its long-term impact is projected to generate $1 billion in overall economic activity in the city over the next 12 years, adding $83.4 million annually to the local economy and supporting 464 jobs. It is also expected to contribute $4.8 million each year in combined state and local tax revenue.
In 2024, The Community Solution Education System and The Chicago School jointly acquired the former Tyson Foods headquarters at 400 S. Jefferson Street to serve as the school’s future location.
“Chicago has long been a recognized world leader in medical education, and The Chicago School is honored to become part of this legacy,” said Dr. John Lucas, founding dean and chief academic officer of IllinoisCOM.
