"Record Volume Achieved at Port of Houston"

The Port of Houston has achieved a new milestone, surpassing 2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2024. This sets a new record for the amount of cargo passing through the port. In fact, there has been a significant increase in TEUs processed at the port’s terminal, with a growth rate of 13% compared to the first half of 2023.

In June alone, there was an impressive rise in TEU numbers by 7%, when compared to June of last year. The demand for goods and consumer spending is largely driven by furniture, hardware products, retail goods and food items. Texas’ remarkable economic growth continues to drive higher import and export volumes than previous years.

As America’s fifth-largest container port along the Houston Ship Channel, it plays an essential role as a hub for commerce. This is evident from its close proximity to industrial parks with high occupancy rates and ongoing construction projects.

The Port also remains committed towards completing its Houston Ship Channel Expansion project on schedule this year-end which will allow larger vessels up to15 ,000 TEUs capacity into its waters .

Overall ,the Port’s recent achievements are indicative not onlyofits growing significance but also highlightits continuous efforts towards progressand developmentin facilitating tradeand boostingthe economy.
