Howard University has recently applied for a demolition permit for its three-story College of Nursing and Allied Health Building, also known as Freedman’s Hospital Annex. This development was reported by the Washington Business Journal.
The university intends to demolish this building in order to make room for a new $650 million Level I trauma center with 225 beds. The project has already secured $225 million in tax abatements, received $25 million in infrastructure support from the District, and obtained a federal grant of $100 million.
The hospital is expected to be completed by 2027. Along with this facility, Howard University plans on investing an additional $785 million towards new academic centers such as the Health Sciences Complex, Center for Arts and Communications, and STEM center.
