Vancouver-based QuadReal Property Group has acquired a significant student housing portfolio in the United Kingdom, comprising eight purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) assets totaling 3,460 beds. The transaction, valued at more than £500 million (over US$665 million), was made with funds and entities managed by Apollo.

The portfolio includes properties located in key PBSA markets, including London, and underscores QuadReal’s strategic investment in the UK education sector. Notably, 75% of the properties are situated near prestigious Russell Group universities, which are known for their academic excellence and high demand for student housing.

All eight buildings were constructed within the past five to seven years and feature modern amenities such as fitness centers, co-working spaces, audio-visual rooms, communal areas, and social event spaces.

QuadReal highlighted the strong growth prospects of the UK PBSA market, citing its position as Europe’s largest student population hub and its high proportion of international students. Full-time student enrollments continue to rise, while the market faces a significant supply-demand imbalance. Industry forecasts estimate a shortfall of approximately 840,000 student accommodation units by 2027.
