**Prologis Plans Major Redevelopment of Caltrain Railyards, Could Add Up to 4,000 Homes**

Prologis Inc. has announced plans to file proposals later this year for a massive redevelopment of the Caltrain railyards at Fourth and King Street in San Francisco. The proposed 7-million-square-foot transformation could include between 1,500 and 4,000 new residential units.

According to the San Francisco Business Times, if the development reaches its full scale, it would be among the city’s largest housing projects located near a major transit hub. The broad range of potential housing units gives Prologis the flexibility to adjust to future housing demand.

Though formal approvals are unlikely before 2027, the San Francisco Planning Commission has already begun to stress the importance of affordability in the project. Genevieve Cadwalader, Vice President at Prologis, emphasized the integral role housing will play in the redevelopment, envisioning a dense, transit-oriented neighborhood.

“This is a vision for the future of San Francisco,” Cadwalader said during a recent commission meeting.

In development planning for several years, the project is poised to become San Francisco’s second-densest transit-centric district, following the Transbay neighborhood.
