"Prioritizing Experience over Efficiency: The Growing Importance of Workplace Metrics"

In the ever-changing landscape of post-pandemic workplaces, companies are faced with the challenge of determining the most effective measures for real estate success and utilization. One commonly used measure has been space utilization rates.

However, according to a recent CBRE article titled “Companies Now Prefer Metrics that Measure Effectiveness, Rather than Efficiency,” it seems that space utilization alone is not enough. The article reveals that 79% of CBRE clients aim for a minimum utilization rate of 65%, but in reality, actual rates only reach 38%, with just a slight increase from last year.

Moreover, while many occupiers claim to have an effective workplace (73%), only about half actively measure effectiveness. Interestingly enough, those who solely rely on space utilization as their metric are less likely to report an effective workplace compared to those who also consider employee sentiment and retention rates.

The Importance of Employee Satisfaction

It’s clear that there is more to creating an efficient workplace than simply having employees present at their desks during designated hours. While measuring space usage remains important in evaluating efficiency levels within offices, employee satisfaction has emerged as a top priority among CBRE clients over the past few years – increasing from just 8% in 2023 to now reaching up at14%.

This shift highlights how businesses are placing greater emphasis on factors such as morale and happiness when it comes down determining overall success within their organizations.

Traditional Measures Declining

As companies continue adapting new strategies for optimizing costs savings through office use optimization (a key goal among CRE professionals), traditional metrics like design density and people density have seen significant declines over time – signaling changing priorities amongst businesses today.

Finding Solutions: Aligning Objectives & Policies

To achieve successful implementation towards meeting these objectives ,the article suggests aligning targets with communicated policies can greatly contribute towards achieving goals while enhancing trust transparency consistency productivity across all levels within organizations . In fact ,96 %of surveyed organization already had some form of workplace policy in place (such as remote work versus full-time work) – highlighting the importance of having a clear and cohesive plan in place.

Ultimately, it’s becoming increasingly evident that employee experience is now being prioritized over efficiency alone when it comes to measuring success within the modern workplace. By aligning objectives with policies and considering various metrics beyond just space utilization rates, companies can not only achieve their goals but also foster a more positive and productive working environment for their employees.
