"Portland's James Beard Public Market Under Consideration for $10M in Bonds"

A proposed bill in Oregon aims to provide $10 million towards the development of the highly anticipated James Beard Public Market in Portland. The state’s House Committee on Economic Development, Small Business, and Trade recently held a public hearing on House Bill 3377 which would allow lottery bonds to be used for the Downtown Portland location.

During the hearing, Jessica Elkan, Executive Director of James Beard Public Market, shared that approximately 40 small businesses will be housed at this site and it is expected to create jobs for around 200 people. The market is set to open in 2025 and will operate seven days a week with both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Named after renowned cookbook author and chef James Beard who was born in Portland in 1903, this market will feature a diverse selection of local vendors and boutiques. If approved by lawmakers, it could bring significant economic benefits to the city upon its opening.
