Portland Trail Blazers Collaborate with Nonprofit to Revitalize Historic Neighborhood

The Albina Vision Trust, a nonprofit organization, and the Portland Trail Blazers have joined forces to establish the Albina Rose Alliance. This partnership aims to support community-led development initiatives in Lower Albina, with the goal of revitalizing it as a central hub for Portland’s Black community.

According to an article by The Portland Business Journal, this NBA franchise plays a crucial role in this endeavor due to its significant property ownership in what is now known as the Rose Quarter. AVT’s objective is to reconnect the 94-acre neighborhood that was divided by Interstate 5 and Memorial Coliseum construction.

The alliance will focus on four key areas outlined by both organizations:

1. A collaborative development strategy for Lower Albina and the Rose Quarter.
2. Joint efforts in storytelling and communication.
3. Working together on legislative strategies and advocacy.
4. Celebrating community through shared events and gatherings.

Dewayne Hankins, president of business operations for Rip City Management (which oversees Trail Blazers’ operations), stated that “the Portland Trail Blazers have deep ties with the Albina neighborhood” and are dedicated to partnering with AVT towards positive change moving forward.

In addition, pictured above is one of their joint projects – ‘Albina One’, an affordable housing complex being co-developed by AVT itself.”
