Oak Brook-based Portillo’s has recently announced plans to expand its restaurant chain by opening 920 new locations over the next 20 years. Known for their famous Chicago-style hot dogs, Polish sausages, and Italian beef sandwiches, the fast-casual chain currently operates in 10 states with a total of 77 restaurants.
According to the company, they will be implementing a new design for their future restaurants that will have a smaller overall footprint and shorter production line. The average size of these “Restaurant of the Future” locations will be around 5,500 to 6,000 square feet with a production line measuring at just under fifty feet.
In addition to this expansion plan, Portillo’s has also revealed three upcoming Chicagoland locations set to open in late-2023. These include an Algonquin location spanning over7 ,800 square feet with a retro automotive garage theme and seating for more than two hundred guests. Another location in Cicero will feature similar theming along with indoor dining space while still maintaining its smaller-footprint style. Lastly , Rosemont’s newest Portillo’s restaurant won’t have an indoor dining room but instead offer drive-thru lanes and an inside pick-up area.
This news marks another milestone achievement for Illinois-based Portillo’s as it continues on its journey towards becoming one of America’s most beloved fast-casual chains.
