Sanko Texas Corporation, a Japanese plastics manufacturer, has broken ground on its first U.S. manufacturing facility near Lone Star Pass and Applewhite Road on the South Side of Bexar County.
The company is investing $40 million in the project, which will be built on 43 acres and is supported by a county-approved tax incentive package estimated at roughly $850,000 over a 10-year period. The Bexar County Commissioners Court authorized a 10-year, 75% tax abatement tied to the development. Sanko says it may hire up to 300 employees.
Sanko manufactures plastic crates, pallets and industrial containers used in logistics and material handling. The new plant will serve as a supplier to Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas, located nearby.
Construction of the facility is expected to take approximately two years. Tokyo-based Kajima Corporation will lead the project as general contractor.
