Pinnacle Construction Group, a design-build firm based in Grand Rapids, has recently begun construction on Michigan’s inaugural certified passive housing development for multifamily units. The project was initiated last month and will be commemorated with an official groundbreaking ceremony next week by Crain’s.
The development will consist of 43 one-bedroom and ten two-bedroom apartments, located at 734 E. Savidge Street. It is expected to reach completion in February 2025 and receive certification from the Passive House Institute U.S., Inc (PHIUS), a sustainable building program that prioritizes minimal energy consumption and near-zero carbon emissions.
Samaritas, a nonprofit organization focused on providing affordable housing options in Michigan, will serve as the majority owner-operator of this $16.3 million project. Pinnacle serves as both architect and contractor while also holding minority ownership alongside Little River Development LLC – the real estate arm of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians based in Manistee.
