Phoenix Leads the Nation in Build-to-Rent Housing Deliveries

Phoenix has emerged as the national leader in Build-to-Rent (BTR) housing, topping the list for both the number of units delivered in 2024 and the total number completed over the past five years. According to the latest data from Point2Homes, the city has experienced a remarkable 309% increase in BTR inventory since 2019.

In 2024 alone, the BTR sector across the U.S. saw a record-breaking 39,000 new units completed — a 15.5% rise from 2023 and 10 times greater than in 2015. The upward trajectory seems set to continue, with nearly 110,000 single-family rental homes currently in development nationwide. Phoenix remains a key market, with over 13,000 additional units planned or under construction.

Last year, Phoenix led all metros with 4,460 new single-family rental units added to its BTR inventory. Since 2020, the city has delivered a total of 12,702 units — more than any other metro area in the country.

Following Phoenix, Dallas and Atlanta also showed strong growth in the BTR sector. Dallas delivered 3,197 new units in 2024, while Atlanta expanded its rental inventory by over 3,000 units.

The flourishing BTR market highlights shifting housing trends and increasing demand for rental alternatives in growing urban areas. Phoenix’s position at the forefront of this trend underscores its significance in the evolving housing landscape.
