The Phoenix City Council has approved a zoning proposal for the development of Gila Foothills, a 300-acre master-planned community located southwest of Phoenix. The project will be situated on agricultural land along Loop 202, just north of South Mountain. Plans include a luxurious resort spanning 50 acres, as well as housing and a hospital in Laveen Village.
According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the proposed plan outlines construction for approximately 1,200 housing units. However, if certain conditions are met such as bringing in additional amenities like restaurants and retail spaces or senior living options and townhomes,a total of up to 1,000 more units can be built on-site. This is an increase from the previous zoning allowance which permitted only around3 ,200 residential units.
The team behind this ambitious project includes Enterprise Capital,Gila and Salt River Development LLC,butler Housing Co., Davis,Kimley-Horn,and Berry Riddell LLC.The approval by city council marks another milestone for this expansive development known as Gila Foothills Plan.
