Phoenix Approves Gila Foothills Expansion Plan

The Phoenix City Council has given the green light to a zoning proposal for Gila Foothills, a 300-acre master-planned development located southwest of Phoenix. This new development will be situated along Loop 202 and just north of South Mountain on previously agricultural land. The approved plan includes a resort spanning over 50 acres, as well as housing and a hospital in Laveen Village.

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the proposed project aims for 1,200 residential units but has potential for additional growth if certain conditions are met. These include bringing in amenities such as restaurants and retail spaces, senior housing options, townhomes and most importantly -a Level 1 trauma hospital. With these additions in place,the site could accommodate up to an extra thousand residential units that were initially zoned for nearly3 ,200 homes.
