PCC Community Markets, a popular organic grocery store known for its locally-sourced ingredients and products, has announced the closure of its downtown Seattle location in early 2022. The decision comes less than two years after the flagship store opened on the ground floor of Rainier Square tower, as reported by The Seattle Times.
Despite being one of the largest new businesses to enter Seattle’s struggling market, with a spacious 20,000-square-foot natural foods store that was once seen as a beacon of hope for revitalization in the area, it has faced challenges due to post-pandemic conditions. These include increased security costs and a decline in downtown office workers.
According to PCC CEO Krish Srinivasan: “Despite having an amazing team and supportive landlord along with fantastic store conditions our downtown location unfortunately remains unprofitable. We do not foresee this changing anytime soon.” Currently operating 16 stores throughout Puget Sound including Bellevue,Burien , Bothell , Edmonds , Issaquah,Kirkland Redmond, and other areas within Seattle, the company is taking steps towards financial stability by closing down their struggling location.
The announcement marks another blow for Connect CRE readers who have been following developments at PCC closely since they first launched their flagship outlet back in late-2019 .
