Howard Levine, the founder, president and CEO of ARCS Commercial Mortgage Co. LP, passed away on October 11th. He was known for his successful business ventures as well as his dedication to important causes.

During Levine’s tenure at Calabasas-based ARCS, the company became a major provider of multifamily and commercial mortgage financing. Under his leadership, it grew to become the top multifamily lender in America with offices across the country. Additionally, ARCS was recognized as a leading Fannie Mae apartment lender in the US and one of the top affordable housing lenders.

Levine played an integral role in shaping and guiding the mortgage industry throughout his career. He served on various executive boards including those for Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), Urban Land Institute’s Multifamily Council (ULI) and National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC). He also held positions on boards such as National Association of Home Builders’ Multifamily Division (NAHB) and USC Lusk Center for Real Estate’s Leadership Council.

As an alumnus of UCLA himself, Levine helped establish UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate by serving as its founding board member. In addition to this contribution towards education in real estate field he also advised Ziman’s Real Estate Alumni Group through their advisory board membership program which he actively participated with wife Irene by donating generously towards creating Howard & Irene Levine Program that focused primarily upon addressing issues related to urban/rural housing markets along with policy making decisions concerning sustainability/redevelopment matters specifically pertaining lower-income/workforce households’ needs/outcomes .

Levine often shared his knowledge through lectures at graduate level programs offered by UCLA Anderson School Of Management where he completed MBA degree course from . His contributions were acknowledged when he received recognition among other notable alumni during school’s 75th anniversary celebration event back in year 2011 under category ‘100 Inspirational Alumni’.
