"Owners of United Center Reveal $7B Plan for Revitalizing Surrounding Area"

The owners of United Center have announced a $7 billion plan to revitalize the surrounding area with green spaces, housing, and a 6,000-seat music hall. The project was jointly unveiled by Chicago Bulls owner Michael Reinsdorf and Chicago Blackhawks owner Danny Wirtz as the largest private investment on the West Side of Chicago.

Named “The 1901 Project,” this redevelopment will cover more than 55 acres around the arena campus and include residential units, retail spaces, entertainment venues, and public open areas. The first phase is set to begin in spring 2025 on surface parking lots near the arena.

According to Wirtz, their vision for The 1901 Project is not only to bring significant economic growth but also honor the area’s history while enhancing its vibrancy. This $7 billion investment is expected to generate approximately $4.5 billion in stabilized economic impact and contribute over $100 million in tax revenue once completed.
