**Barron Development and Hudson Capital Plan Major Overhaul of Plantation Marketplace**
Barron Development and Hudson Capital are proposing a significant transformation of The Plantation Marketplace by introducing residential units and scaling back retail space. The developers aim to build 653 apartments while reducing the current retail footprint to 60,000 square feet.
According to a report by the South Florida Business Journal, city officials have requested revisions to the proposal and asked the developers to return for a second review.
The preliminary site plan outlines new retail space along Broward Boulevard, highlighted by the inclusion of a grocery store, a linear park, and a central courtyard. The project is being designed in collaboration with Bizi Architecture & Planning.
Plantation Marketplace, located on a nearly 23-acre parcel, currently features a 238,136-square-foot retail center constructed in 1976. Existing tenants include Amped Fitness, Just Spoons Café, Food Fair Wholesale, and Plato’s Closet.
Barron Development and Hudson Capital acquired the property in 2022 for $45.7 million. The developers note that the existing configuration is outdated and believe the redevelopment plan will better reflect modern building trends.
