The owners of the Shops at Sunset Place in South Miami have proposed a major redevelopment plan for the mostly vacant mall. The project, led by Federal Realty Investment Trust, Grass River Property and The Comras Company, will be considered by South Miami’s Planning Board. Zyscovich has been chosen as the project architect.
Originally opened in 1999, the current mall spans 524,180 square feet and includes a movie theater, 40 apartments and some office space. However, the new development – renamed simply as Sunset Place – would greatly expand on this with a total of 1.47 million square feet. It will feature over 1,500 residential units along with amenities such as a hotel with 287 rooms,a large theater seating capacity of around1300 seats, and approximately60 thousand square feet dedicated to offices.Additionally, the commercial space will consist mainlyof restaurants (75%)and retail stores(25%). To accommodate these additions,a total of2 ,418 parking spaceswill also be includedinthe plans.
