The owners of the Shops at Sunset Place in South Miami are proposing a major redevelopment plan that includes over 1,500 residential units. The South Miami Planning Board will review a site plan for the underperforming mall located at 5701-5795 S.W. 72nd St (Sunset Drive). Leading this project are Federal Realty Investment Trust, Grass River Property, and The Comras Company with Zyscovich as the project architect (photo included).
Originally opened in 1999, the current Shops at Sunset Place features approximately 524,180 square feet of retail space along with a movie theater, 40 apartments and some office space.
Under its new name “Sunset Place,” this ambitious redevelopment would encompass an impressive total of about 1.47 million square feet including:
– 1,513 multifamily units
– 287 hotel rooms
– 1 ,300 theater seats
– 60 ,000 square feet of offices
and -150 ,000 square feet of commercial space consisting mostly restaurants (75%) and some retail stores (25%). Additionally there will be ample parking available with a total capacity for up to2 ,418 vehicles.
