Orlando Airport Receives $300M Upgrade from United Airlines

United Airlines has announced plans to construct a new 354,400-square-foot hangar at Orlando International Airport. The hangar will serve as the airline’s maintenance facility and is estimated to cost up to $300 million. Currently, United leases three separate spaces for its maintenance operations: Hangar 407, Hangar 431, and Warehouse 447. These facilities employ over 1,000 workers.

According to reports from the Orlando Business Journal , United will demolish Hangar 431 and vacate Warehouse 447 in order to make room for the new consolidated facility. This move will also free up space for other airport uses. Instead of renovating Hangar 431 at a cost of $30 million, United has opted to build a brand-new facility.

Under their lease agreement with the airport authority, construction on the new hangar is expected take two years followed by a post-construction period of thirty years with an option for an additional ten-year extension if needed.

During construction alone, United will pay $6.7 million in rent and over the course of their thirty-year term they are projected pay approximately $141.35 million in total rent payments with potential additional costs totaling around $88.12 during any extension periods utilized by United.

Currently ranked as seventh-largest airline operating out of Orlando International Airport based on passenger volume (totaling approximately4 .36million passengers in2023), this investment demonstrates thatUnited remains committedto providing top-notch servicesand amenitiesforits customersinOrlandoand beyond.Their commitmentto investingin infrastructureupgradeswill ensurethatthey continueprovidinga seamless travel experiencefortheirpassengers. The latest developmentis just one exampleof howtheairlinecontinuesto growand evolvewiththeneedsandsatisfactionoftheircustomersatthe forefront.
