Northeast-based discount retail chain Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) has announced plans to acquire 15 former Big Lots locations across eight states, as part of a broader expansion strategy for 2025. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Headquartered in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, OSJL intends to open up to 22 new stores this year, including the 15 newly acquired locations along with five to seven additional stores in other regions.

The new stores, which are expected to open by early summer 2025, will repurpose former Big Lots locations in the following cities:

– Somers Point, Barnegat, and Cape May, New Jersey
– Chester, Easton, and Elkton, Maryland
– Dover and Seaford, Delaware
– Harrisburg and Trexlertown, Pennsylvania
– Dansville and Liverpool, New York
– Webster, Massachusetts
– Morrisville, Vermont
– Auburn, Maine

The retail spaces vary in size, ranging from 27,188 to 43,021 square feet.

“This is an exciting chapter for us,” said Marc Perlman, principal owner and CEO of Ocean State Job Lot. “Expanding into new markets has long been part of our strategic plan, but like everything else we do, it needs to be done with value in mind.”

The company’s continued growth reflects its commitment to delivering affordable, quality merchandise across the Northeast region.
