NYCHA and Residents Join Forces to Rebuild Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea Houses

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) has announced plans to completely rebuild the Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea Houses campuses. Located at 441 W 26th St, the redevelopment cost is estimated to be over $1.5 billion.

Mayor Eric Adams expressed his excitement for residents of Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea Houses who have taken advantage of this opportunity by saying: “Our administration has always put residents first in decision-making.”

Following a resident engagement effort, NYCHA selected a plan that involves replacing all 2,055 existing apartments with brand new buildings, adding approximately 3,500 mixed income apartments and enhancing community resources. The redevelopment aims to improve living conditions while addressing the growing backlog of repairs and maintenance in NYCHA developments as well as providing modern energy efficient housing for existing residents along with additional campus units.
