**NYCEDC Breaks Ground on Waterfront Park in Sunset Park Industrial District**
New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has officially broken ground on the Pier 6 redevelopment project, a key transformation initiative located at MADE Bush Terminal in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park district. The project, situated on a five-acre deteriorated pier, will create a new waterfront park for both the local community and the tenants of MADE Bush Terminal—a hub for Manufacturers, Artisans, Designers, and Entrepreneurs.
Slated for completion in 2027, the Pier 6 waterfront initiative aims to revitalize one of Brooklyn’s underutilized waterfronts into a vibrant green space. The development underscores the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance public access to the waterfront while fostering a more sustainable and community-focused industrial ecosystem.
“The Pier 6 renovation is a prime example of how investing in building green spaces and creating opportunities for public waterfront access are integral steps in serving our communities, tenants, and their needs,” said NYCEDC President and CEO Andrew Kimball.
To bring the project to life, NYCEDC has assembled a team of leading firms in architecture, engineering, and sustainability. Collaborators include Arcadis, Matrix New World, SCAPE Landscape Architecture DPC, Sam Schwartz Engineering, Johnson & Asberry for community outreach and engagement, and JK Muir for sustainability consulting.
The broader Sunset Park District spans 200 acres and features four prominent industrial campuses: Brooklyn Army Terminal, South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, MADE Bush Terminal, and the Brooklyn Wholesale Meat Market. These campuses serve as key economic drivers in New York City, promoting innovation, employment, and access to resources for businesses and the surrounding community.
The redevelopment of Pier 6 is a significant milestone in NYCEDC’s mission to create equitable, inclusive, and sustainable spaces throughout New York City.
