New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced on Thursday that two Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) have been established with the Building & Construction Trades Council of Greater New York (BCTC). These agreements will cover over $1 billion in construction projects, including much-needed infrastructure improvements in Willets Point. The covered projects will include green infrastructure upgrades as well as repairs to the city’s sewers, roads, and bridges.
In addition to these PLAs, the New York City Economic Development Corporation has signed a letter of intent with BCTC to negotiate further agreements for major developments such as Hunts Point Produce Market, Kingsbridge Armory redevelopment, and Science Park and Research Campus Kips Bay. These new PLAs also lay out a framework for future negotiations between BCTC and the city.
According to Mayor Adams: “These agreements are beneficial for all parties involved – it’s truly a win-win-win situation. And we’re not stopping here – this is just the beginning of our efforts. With these initial projects alone totaling over $1 billion dollars in value under PLA coverage already secured today; we now have an established framework that can be used moving forward towards another estimated $50 billion worth of future project negotiations.”
