The proposed BNSF Logistics Park Phoenix would bring a significant $3.2 billion investment to the area, occupying 4,300 acres as an operations center. This intermodal train hub has the potential to reduce costs and enhance freight transportation between major markets while also reducing truck traffic.
Aside from its intermodal capabilities, this development will add 18 million square feet of new warehouse space and allocate 1,100 acres of land for rail services in metro Phoenix.
This project is estimated to generate approximately $245 million in annual tax revenue for Arizona, Maricopa County and local school districts. It is expected that once completed it will contribute a total economic activity of $7.2 billion annually and create numerous direct and indirect jobs. Currently employing around 1,550 people across Arizona’s rail network spanning over 592 miles,BNSF aims to expand their workforce with this initiative.
Pending approval from planning boards, the Board of Supervisors are set to vote on December11th on moving forward with this project which could potentially transform Northwest Phoenix into a thriving hub for rail freight transportation.
