**Construction Begins on Northeastern University’s 23-Story Dorm in Boston**

Early-stage site work is underway for Northeastern University’s newest addition to its Boston campus—a 23-story mixed-use tower located at 840 Columbus Avenue. According to the Boston Business Journal, this forthcoming development will include housing for 800 students, along with academic and community spaces. The project is designed to replace 500 existing student beds currently located in the Fenway neighborhood.

In early August, developer American Campus Communities (ACC) initiated remediation efforts while simultaneously seeking final approvals for vertical construction. University officials anticipate that the permitting process will be finalized in the coming weeks, paving the way for full-scale construction to begin.

The tower is slated for completion in 2028. Once finished, the new facility will contribute to Northeastern’s longstanding commitment to the City of Boston to provide 1,000 net new student beds, a pledge originally made in the university’s 2013 Institutional Master Plan.

Industry outlet BLDUP noted that the project will address shifting student housing preferences and will allow the university to return some of its Fenway-based residential properties to the open market.

The development marks a major step forward in modernizing student housing while continuing to integrate academic and community engagement spaces within the university’s urban footprint.
