NHP Foundation Finishes Woodlawn Senior Housing Project

The NHP Foundation (NHPF), a national nonprofit organization focused on housing, has recently finished renovating the Edwin C. Berry Manor Apartments in Chicago. This senior living property, located at 737 E. 69th Street and built in 1991, has undergone major improvements to preserve its affordable housing status.

Thanks to financial support from HUD, Merchants Capital , Illinois Housing Development Authority, National Affordable Housing Trust and UnitedHealth Group, the project was successfully completed. The apartments were fully leased by September of this year.

Veronica Gonzalez, Regional Director of Development for NHPF and lead on this project stated that preserving Edwin Berry Manor is an important step in maintaining affordable rental units for low-income residents in the evolving Woodlawn community. This marks NHPF’s fourth acquisition or construction project within Chicago over the past five years specifically catering towards seniors’ needs.
