“Newsom Fast-Tracks $2 Billion DTLA Mixed-Use Project”

"Newsom Fast-Tracks $2 Billion DTLA Mixed-Use Project"

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Thursday that he has taken action to expedite the development of Continuum Partners’ Fourth and Central project, a $2-billion mixed-use development in downtown Los Angeles. The project is set to include over 1,500 rental and for-sale apartments, 411,113 square feet of office space, 101,088 square feet of restaurant/retail space and a 68-key hotel.

Newsom certified the Fourth and Central project as eligible for judicial streamlining under legislation enacted in 2023. This means that any legal challenges brought against the project must be resolved within a maximum time frame of just nine months instead of the typical three- to five-year timeline. It is only the third project overall -and first housing development- to receive this streamlined process since Newsom signed an infrastructure package into law.

In his statement regarding this decision, Governor Newsom emphasized how bureaucratic red tape has hindered important housing projects like Fourth and Central from being built efficiently in California for far too long. He also highlighted how utilizing California’s infrastructure law will help accelerate construction on much-needed developments like this one across the state.
