"New Home Depot to be Built by Developers in Spokane"

A new Home Depot store is in the works for Spokane’s South Hill, as developers have taken the next step in a $20 million project to revitalize a former Shopko retail site. According to reports from the Spokane Journal, Lars Andersen & Associates Inc. has filed for environmental approval with Washington’s Department of Ecology and construction could begin as early as summer 2025.

The plans include demolishing the old Shopko building and replacing it with a new 134,000-square-foot Home Depot store along with upgraded parking lots and expanded stormwater retention areas. The single-story retail store will cover 107,900 square feet while an additional 26,300 square feet will be dedicated to a garden center.

This development comes after Phoenix-based real estate investment company SHS Building LLC purchased the land nine years ago for $10.5 million when Shopko closed its doors in Spokane along with over 360 other locations nationwide in 2019.

With construction set to start soon on this exciting project, residents can look forward to having access to another convenient shopping option on their doorstep by summer of next year.
