"New EnerSys Building to House $500M Greenville Battery Factory"

EnerSys, a leading battery manufacturer in the United States, has chosen Greenville, SC as the location for its new lithium-ion cell gigafactory. The company has applied for a comprehensive incentive package from South Carolina and Greenville County worth $200 million to support this investment. This will also be supplemented by IRA tax benefits and potential federal funding.

The proposed facility will cover 500,000 square feet on approximately 140 acres in Augusta Grove business park in Greenville. It is expected to produce four-gigawatt hours (GWh) of lithium-ion cells annually for commercial, industrial and defense purposes. This project is estimated to create 500 high-quality jobs.

Construction of the factory is planned to begin in early 2025 with operations starting by late 2027. EnerSys already has an existing factory in the area and this new development further solidifies their commitment towards advancing battery production capabilities within the country.
