Silicon Valley’s renowned venture capital firm, Andreessen Horowitz, is expanding its reach with the opening of a new office in Washington D.C. The 12,000 square foot space at PNC Place has been subleased from FedEx Corp and will serve as the firm’s first location in the nation’s capital. This strategic move aligns with Andreessen Horowitz’s focus on supporting defense, aerospace, and national security startups.
The sublease agreement extends through 2029 and positions the firm near prominent government institutions such as the White House. With an impressive $42 billion in assets under management, Andreessen Horowitz has a track record of backing successful tech companies like Airbnb, Coinbase,and Facebook.
This expansion also supports their American Dynamism initiative which aims to invest in sectors critical to national interests. In line with this mission,the recent closure of a $7.2 billion fund includes an allocation of $600 million for this specific initiative.Additionally,Arlington-based startup Cape,a privacy-focused telecommunications company,recently received funding fromAndreessenHorowitzas partofa$61million roundin April.Thefirm anticipates moving into their new D.C.office laterthis quarter.
