The Port of Los Angeles has recently released a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking proposals for the construction and operation of a new Outer Harbor Cruise Terminal. Additionally, they are also looking to redevelop and operate the existing World Cruise Center. Interested parties must submit their proposals by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
According to Gene Seroka, executive director of the Port, there has been an increase in demand for cruises from LA Waterfront over the past few years with a record-breaking 1.3 million cruise passengers in 2023 alone. With further growth projected, these projects will allow for significant expansion of cruise business capacity while ensuring an exceptional experience and convenience for travelers.
The proposed terminal should have a flexible design that can accommodate various non-cruise revenue-generating activities during off-seasons such as filming, conferences and events.
Mike Galvin, director of waterfront and commercial real estate development at the Port stated that over $1 billion has been invested in enhancing LA Waterfront infrastructure over two decades which includes operations as well as programming efforts. The two proposed projects represent another phase in this investment plan towards transforming the waterfront into an exciting multi-use visitor destination.
