ALDI, a popular German discount grocer, is expanding its reach to the greater Northeast D.C. community with a new location at Art Place at Fort Totten. The grand opening of this 25,000-square-foot store will be the second in D.C., according to a press release from The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. This development is part of the foundation’s two-million-square-foot mixed-use project in Fort Totten and is strategically located on South Dakota Avenue NE and Kennedy Street NE.
The new ALDI store will be situated within Art Place at Fort Totten, an expansive transit-oriented mixed-use development that offers convenient access to public transportation via Metro. Developed by Perkins Eastman under the guidance of The Cafritz Foundation’s original master plan, this phased project spans across Ward 5 along South Dakota Avenue and includes multifamily residences as well as retail spaces for shopping convenience. Additionally, there are plans for cultural venues such as art galleries and entertainment spaces within this dynamic community hub upon full completion.
