White Center Affordable Housing Development Opens in Seattle
Community Roots Housing and the White Center Community Development Association have officially opened the Canopy Apartments and the White Center HUB, a new affordable housing and community services campus developed in partnership with local residents.
Located at 10821 8th Avenue SW in Seattle, the project brings 76 new affordable homes to the area, including 59 apartments with two to four bedrooms. These homes are designated for households earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income, with 24 units specifically set aside for large families of four or more people.
Adjacent to the residential development, the two-story White Center HUB will provide a variety of essential community services, including health care, youth programs, food assistance, and family support services.
Leasing demand has been strong since applications opened in October 2025. As of January, 84% of the apartments are occupied, with applications or leases pending on 9 of the 12 remaining units.
In 2025, Community Roots Housing delivered 311 new affordable apartments and began construction on an additional 84 units, reinforcing their ongoing commitment to addressing housing needs in the region.
