**Kingfisher Village: New 60-Unit Tiny Home Community Opens in Tacoma**
Pierce County, the City of Tacoma, the Washington State Department of Commerce, and the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) recently celebrated the grand opening of Kingfisher Village, a new tiny home community in South Tacoma.
Located at 1824 S. 84th Street, the residential project will provide 60 units of affordable housing for individuals experiencing homelessness—particularly those living near public rights-of-way, including highways, ramps, and under bridges.
The project, constructed at a cost of $2 million, was built with the help of volunteers, including local high school students. LIHI is partnering with Pierce County and the State Encampment Resolution Program under the Department of Commerce to operate Kingfisher Village as a 24/7 enhanced shelter on land owned by LIHI.
This collaboration reflects a broader effort to provide immediate, supportive housing solutions to some of the region’s most vulnerable residents.
